Supperclub Pan-Asian Edition

Hey! Thanks everyone for coming out to Supperclub on Asian Night. Man, was it fun. We started cooking the kimchee a week in advance, and we didn’t stop cooking all week! We learned a lot, as we realized halfway through that none of us had done much Asian cooking beyond stirfrys and summer rolls before this. Let’s just say there was a learning curve, and lots of wonky experimentation. But in the end, we put our own spin on some pretty classic beloved recipes, taking cues from Dim Sum and Yakitori traditions. Here’s what we came up with:

Lemongrass Sake coolers

Pork Belly (or Veggie) Steamed buns with Fennel-Hoisin sauce, Pickled Watermelon and Pickled Cukes

Thai Papaya Salad with Peanut Brittle

Kimchee Onigiri

White Grape Buttermilk Ice Cream Boba Drinks

Brussel Sprouts and Cauliflower with fish sauce and Puffed Rice (thanks David Chang!)

Lychee Sorbet and Green Tea Ice cream

“Are you poptail curious???” That’s how artist/community organizer David Aguirre coined our second collaboration with he and his Dinnerware Arts Collective this past week. We set out to make cocktail-popsicles, to slake Tucsonans’ thirst during these dog days of summer. Between the three of us, we came up with a slew of off-the-wall flavors, and David let us use his super-cool food truck to distribute them!!! Thanks to all our loyal Monsoon Supper-goers and to all the new people we met as well.

We also had the pleasure of meeting one of Tucson’s awesomest bands: Vox Urbana. Rockin out to garage cumbia while hawking boozy popsicles for a good cause? Can this be our full-time job? (Please?)

Eat Dinner Fund an Artist Event

Last week we were fortunate enough to get to cook for a charity event for local Tucson artists at the fabulous new Dinnerware space on Toole avenue. You must check out one of their events soon. We are big fans of the Yum Yum Stretch yoga classes. Thanks to David Aguirre, Dinnerware’s director, who got us involved and allowed us to freely create. Check out the photos below.

Chilled Melon Soup with Port Wine Ice Cube

Green Salad with Artichoke-Sundried Tomato Vin and Baked Sheep’s Feta Skewers

Vegetarian or Chicken Golabki (cabbage rolls) with Olives, Prunes and a Wine-Tomato Sauce

Moroccan Summer Veggie Stew with Saffron and Preserved Lemon & Cilantro Tzatziki
